How to get there

Arriving by Air

Rome is served by two major airports: Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci International Airport) and Ciampino. Fiumicino is the main international airport, while Ciampino is used primarily for low-cost airlines.

  • Fiumicino (FCO): 30 minutes by taxi or 45 minutes by train.
  • Ciampino (CIA): 40 minutes by taxi or 1 hour by shuttle bus.

Public Transport

The Colosseum is well connected by Rome's public transport system. The nearest metro station is Colosseo (Line B), just a few minutes walk from the Colosseum.

  • Metro Line B: Get off at the Colosseo stop.
  • Bus: Multiple buses run through the area, including lines 51, 75, and 85.
Transportation Options

Taxis & Car Rentals

If you prefer private transportation, taxis are readily available throughout Rome. Alternatively, you can rent a car, though driving in central Rome can be challenging due to narrow streets and limited parking options.

  • Taxis: Easily flagged down or booked through an app.
  • Car Rentals: Available at both airports, but note that public transport is often the easiest option in central Rome.
